The Walt Disney Company has expanded its collaboration with European broadcasters through a new deal with RAI, bringing a selection of Italian programming to Disney+.
Under the agreement, several RAI titles will be made available to Disney+ subscribers in Italy shortly after their linear broadcast, with some shows arriving on the platform the day after airing on Rai Due. The move reflects Disney+’s growing focus on near-linear catch-up distribution as part of its content strategy.
In addition to next-day releases, the platform will host a broader catalogue of RAI programming, including popular drama and entertainment titles. These will be grouped within a dedicated RAI collection on Disney+, alongside Italian series already available on the service.
The partnership builds on Disney’s long-standing relationship with RAI and forms part of a wider strategy to collaborate with free-to-air broadcasters across Europe. Similar agreements are already in place with networks such as RTVE and ITV in the UK, as well as partnerships with Atresmedia in Spain, ARD and ZDF in Germany, and SIC in Portugal, as the company looks to expand access to local content and diversify its offering for regional audiences.
