Spain has officially set 5 November 2026 as the launch date for its next-generation DVB-T2 digital terrestrial television platform, marking a major milestone in the country’s transition towards Ultra HD broadcasting.
The rollout will introduce the DVB-T2 transmission standard alongside UHD (Ultra High Definition) broadcasts, enabling viewers with compatible televisions and receivers to access higher-quality picture resolution, improved compression efficiency and enhanced broadcast capabilities.
The transition represents a significant upgrade from the current DVB-T standard, allowing broadcasters to deliver more channels and better image quality while making more efficient use of available spectrum. The move also aligns Spain with a growing number of European markets that have already adopted DVB-T2 as the future of terrestrial television.
To support the migration, broadcasters, transmission providers and manufacturers have been preparing infrastructure upgrades and compatible consumer equipment. Hybrid receivers capable of combining terrestrial broadcasting with broadband services are also expected to play an increasingly important role as connected television services continue to expand.
The November launch reinforces Spain’s long-term commitment to modernising its television infrastructure, paving the way for broader UHD adoption and more advanced broadcasting services in the years ahead.
