LG Gallery Adds Masterpieces from The Met to Its Digital Art Collection

0

LG Electronics has expanded the content available through LG Gallery, adding a selection of artworks from New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) to its digital art offering.

The collaboration gives LG smart TV owners access to works from The Met’s extensive collection, transforming compatible televisions into digital displays for some of the museum’s best-known artworks. The initiative combines premium television technology with cultural content designed specifically for the home environment.

The Met collection joins LG Gallery’s growing catalogue of artwork, photography and visual content. LG has been developing the service as part of a broader effort to make the television screen useful beyond conventional entertainment, allowing users to display curated visuals when they are not actively watching TV.

For The Met, the partnership creates another digital distribution channel through which its collection can reach audiences outside the museum itself. It also reflects a wider trend among museums and cultural institutions to make collections available through consumer technology platforms.

The collaboration strengthens LG’s efforts to position its premium TVs as part of the connected home and lifestyle ecosystem, rather than simply as entertainment devices. Art-focused features have become an increasingly important differentiator in the premium television market.

The initiative also highlights how smart-TV platforms are evolving into content ecosystems beyond video, opening opportunities for museums, galleries, artists and other cultural organisations to distribute and potentially monetise digital experiences directly on the biggest screen in the home.
