Sportdigital Keeps Women’s Super League in Its Football Line-Up for 2026/27

German sports broadcaster Sportdigital has secured another season of Barclays Women’s Super League (BWSL) coverage, extending its rights to England’s leading women’s football competition through the 2026/27 campaign. The agreement also covers the Subway Players Cup.

The renewal comes as the BWSL enters an important expansion phase. The league will feature 14 clubs for the first time, creating a 182-match season following the promotion of Birmingham City, Crystal Palace and Charlton Athletic.

Sportdigital will provide access to every BWSL match, distributing games between its linear Sportdigital1+ channel and the Sportdigital+ streaming app. The arrangement gives the broadcaster a combination of traditional pay-TV and digital distribution for its women’s football coverage.

The new season begins on September 4, when London City Lionesses face Manchester United. The fixture is also set to attract additional attention following the arrival of former Barcelona midfielder and two-time FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year Alexia Putellas at London City.

The competition also maintains significant appeal for Sportdigital’s German audience thanks to the growing number of German internationals playing in England. Players including Rebecca Knaak, Sydney Lohmann, Sjoeke Nüsken, Lea Schüller and Selina Cerci are among those competing for BWSL clubs this season.

For Sportdigital, retaining the rights reflects increasing audience interest in top-tier women’s football. Managing Director Bendix Eisermann pointed to the league’s growing international profile and the arrival of high-profile players such as Putellas as evidence of its rising importance.

The extension strengthens Sportdigital’s position around international football while giving the expanded BWSL continued exposure across both linear television and streaming in the German market.
