National Theatre has launched the first seven-day free trial for its National Theatre at Home streaming service, giving new subscribers worldwide unlimited access to its catalogue of theatre productions at no cost during the trial period.
Once the trial ends, viewers can continue with a subscription priced at £9.99 per month or £99.99 per year, with the annual option effectively offering 12 months for the price of 10.
The initiative follows the live digital premiere of The Fifth Step, starring Jack Lowden and Martin Freeman, which streamed on October 1 and is now available to watch on demand.
National Theatre at Home has also unveiled its autumn and winter line-up. Five additional productions will arrive over the coming months: Les Liaisons Dangereuses on November 3, Arcadia on November 26, The Playboy of the Western World and Kinky Boots on December 1, followed by A Child’s Christmas in Wales on December 8.
The catalogue is also expanding with previously announced productions including All My Sons, starring Bryan Cranston, Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Paapa Essiedu; Teeth ‘N’ Smiles, starring Rebecca Lucy Taylor; and War Horse, the National Theatre’s most successful play, which has been seen by more than 8.8 million people worldwide.
Another addition is The Audience, starring Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II. The production is now available globally through the service after previously being restricted to streaming audiences in the UK.
National Theatre Chief Digital Officer Matt Risley said the free trial is intended to bring the organisation’s growing digital theatre catalogue to a broader international audience, making major stage productions accessible to viewers regardless of location.
