BBC Studios Expands FAST Channel Portfolio on Joyn

0

BBC Studios is expanding its FAST presence on Joyn, adding more of its free, ad-supported channels to the German streaming platform and strengthening the distribution of BBC programming in the market.

The expansion forms part of BBC Studios’ broader FAST strategy in Europe, where the company has been building a portfolio of curated 24/7 channels around established programmes, franchises and genres. Its European FAST brands include dedicated destinations such as Top Gear, alongside genre-led services covering drama, history, food and travel.

For Joyn, the additional channels reinforce its free streaming proposition by bringing more premium British programming into its linear streaming environment. FAST channels allow viewers to access scheduled programming without either a traditional pay-TV subscription or an individual on-demand selection.

BBC Studios has been steadily widening the distribution footprint of these channels across European connected-TV and streaming platforms. The company says its FAST operations now span a broad range of genres including comedy, sci-fi, travel, crime, documentaries and entertainment.

The Joyn expansion also illustrates BBC Studios’ strategy of using well-known intellectual property to create targeted streaming destinations. This allows established programmes and catalogue content to find new audiences while creating additional advertising inventory in the growing FAST market.

More broadly, BBC Studios says its FAST channels provide global audiences with ad-supported access to popular programme themes and genres, complementing its traditional linear channels and subscription streaming businesses.
