3Cat Expands Streaming Reach Through Titan OS

0

Catalan public broadcaster 3Cat has expanded its international distribution through a partnership with Titan OS, bringing its free streaming service to Philips, JVC and Sharp smart TVs across Europe and Latin America. The launch strengthens the availability of Catalan-language entertainment and public service programming on connected television platforms.

The integration allows viewers using Titan OS-powered smart TVs to access 3Cat directly from their device’s applications page. The agreement represents another step in the broadcaster’s efforts to extend its digital presence beyond Catalonia and make its programming accessible to international audiences.

3Cat offers a broad selection of free content, including original productions, exclusive digital premieres, classic television series, documentaries, news and podcasts. The platform also provides live television and radio streams, alongside catch-up services that allow viewers to revisit previously broadcast programmes.

Among the titles available are Gènesi, a drama inspired by the story of the renowned El Bulli restaurant, and established Catalan productions such as Merlí and El cor de la ciutat. These programmes form part of the broadcaster’s strategy to promote Catalan-language storytelling and cultural content to audiences worldwide.

The service also features a dedicated children’s section, offering younger viewers access to age-appropriate entertainment. Users can register for a free 3Cat account to unlock additional features, including personalised recommendations designed to improve content discovery.

Rick Fens, Senior Vice President of Business Development at Titan OS, described the collaboration as a natural development for two companies with roots in Barcelona. He highlighted the importance of making Catalan-language content more accessible internationally, particularly through a combination of live broadcasting and on-demand viewing.

For Titan OS, the addition reinforces its strategy of developing an open connected TV ecosystem that combines major international streaming platforms with regional broadcasters and content providers. The company aims to improve the discovery of local programming while expanding the entertainment options available through its operating system.

The partnership also builds on 3Cat’s growing digital audience. Since its launch three years ago, the platform has generated more than 700 million streams and averaged approximately one million unique devices per week. Its catalogue includes more than 410,000 hours of Catalan-language content, reflecting the scale of the broadcaster’s digital offering.

3Cat brings together programming from several established Catalan public media brands, including TV3, Catalunya Ràdio and Super3. Integrating these services into connected TV environments enables the broadcaster to extend the reach of its existing content library without relying exclusively on proprietary applications or traditional television distribution.

The agreement highlights the growing importance of regional content within global connected TV ecosystems. As television manufacturers and operating system providers seek to differentiate their platforms, partnerships with public broadcasters offer opportunities to broaden content diversity and serve audiences interested in local-language programming.

For 3Cat, the launch provides an additional route to international audiences, while Titan OS strengthens its position as a distribution platform connecting regional media organisations with viewers across multiple territories.
