Sky and ITV Unite to Create a New UK Streaming Powerhouse

0

Sky has agreed to acquire ITV’s Media & Entertainment business, bringing together two of the UK’s most established television brands in a landmark deal designed to create a stronger competitor in the streaming era.

The transaction combines ITV’s free-to-air channels, ITVX streaming platform and studios with Sky’s pay-TV, broadband and streaming operations, creating one of the UK’s largest integrated media and entertainment businesses. The combined group aims to accelerate investment in original content, advertising technology and direct-to-consumer streaming services.

By uniting complementary broadcast and streaming assets, the companies expect to strengthen their ability to compete against global streaming giants while expanding the reach of premium UK-produced content. The merger also creates new opportunities to scale advertising solutions, improve content discovery and enhance digital distribution across multiple platforms.

The agreement reflects the growing consolidation taking place across the European media industry, where broadcasters are seeking greater scale to meet rising content costs and increasing competition from international streaming services.

Subject to regulatory approval, the combined business is expected to play a central role in shaping the future of television and streaming in the UK, bringing together leading brands across news, entertainment, sport and on-demand video under a single commercial strategy.
