Deutsche Telekom has secured the exclusive broadcasting rights in Germany for the FIFA World Cup 2030, strengthening its position in the country’s premium sports broadcasting market.
Under the agreement, Telekom will become the exclusive distributor of the tournament through its MagentaTV platform, continuing the company’s long-term strategy of using major sporting events to attract subscribers and reinforce customer loyalty. While selected matches may still be sublicensed to free-to-air broadcasters, Telekom will control the primary distribution rights for the competition.
The acquisition further cements MagentaTV’s reputation as one of Germany’s leading destinations for premium live sports, following previous coverage of UEFA European Championships and FIFA tournaments. Exclusive football rights remain one of the most powerful drivers of subscriber acquisition and engagement, particularly in Europe’s highly competitive streaming and pay-TV landscape.
For FIFA, the agreement ensures extensive coverage in one of its most important European markets while providing Deutsche Telekom with a valuable opportunity to expand its entertainment ecosystem ahead of one of the world’s largest sporting events.
