ARD rolls out new audio platform ARD Sounds

0

ARD has launched ARD Sounds, a redesigned audio app bringing together live radio, podcasts and on-demand content from across Germany’s public broadcasting network.

The service, which went live on 9 March, replaces the ARD Audiothek and is positioned as a central hub for all ARD audio offerings. The broadcaster said the updated branding and interface are aimed at improving content discovery and delivering a more modern listening experience. According to ARD, the app has already been installed on 5.6 million devices worldwide.

Available free across major app stores, ARD Sounds allows users to access radio stations, podcasts, live sports and audio formats in one place, with personalisation features and support for mobile, voice assistants and in-car systems. Existing Audiothek users can migrate seamlessly via an update.

The platform is also being expanded beyond ARD’s own content, with programmes from Deutschlandradio already integrated and ZDF podcasts expected to follow, as part of a broader push to create an open public-service audio ecosystem.
