Liberty Global has signed a five-year agreement with Google Cloud to accelerate its AI transformation across Europe. The partnership will use Google’s Gemini models to enhance TV experiences, customer services, device ecosystems and network performance.
The two companies will also examine how Google Cloud workloads could run inside Liberty Global data centres to address growing demand. The deal builds on collaborations involving Atlas Edge, Liberty Blume and Formula E, where Google Cloud recently became the Official AI Partner.
Recent AI launches within the Liberty group include voice-controlled search from Belgian operator Telenet and a similar rollout by Sunrise in Switzerland, along with Liberty Global’s investment in voice-AI firm ElevenLabs.
Google Cloud’s AI tools will support customers of Virgin Media O2, Telenet, VodafoneZiggo, Virgin Media Ireland and Sunrise. Gemini integration into the Horizon TV platform aims to make content discovery more conversational and extend AI automation into customer care. Liberty will also explore offering Google hardware and services—such as Pixel devices and smart home products—through its operators.
The partnership will focus on AI-driven network automation, security and scalability, while also exploring SME offerings in cloud, cybersecurity and AI. Liberty Global will additionally assess new data monetisation options using its telecom datasets.
Mike Fries, CEO of Liberty Global, said the expanded relationship marks “a significant step” in modernising infrastructure and creating new revenue streams. Tara Brady, President of Google Cloud EMEA, said the aim is to “deliver solutions that enhance customer experience and operational excellence.”
