Ziggo introduces AI-powered voice search on Next and Next Mini boxes

0

Cable operator Ziggo is enhancing its Next and Next Mini TV platforms with artificial intelligence-driven voice search, designed to make finding content faster and more natural. The new feature will be available from 14 November, offering customers a more intuitive way to browse and control their TV experience.

With the upgrade, users can speak naturally rather than relying on specific commands. The AI technology understands everyday language, allowing searches across genres, characters, themes, and personal preferences. Viewers can simply say phrases such as “show me only DC superheroes,” “find a movie starring Kate Winslet,” or “I want to watch a British crime series.”

Beyond content discovery, the new AI functionality also supports core TV controls such as recording, pausing, and changing channels — all handled through voice commands.

Ziggo highlights that it is the first telecom operator in the Netherlands to merge voice interaction with AI-enhanced search capabilities. The company reports growing demand for voice use: more than 40% of its TV customers already interact with their devices by voice, generating over 25 million voice searches in the third quarter of 2025 alone.

Search results will now appear within a redesigned user interface, providing clearer and more aggregated overviews of available content from both TV and streaming sources. The upgrade will be automatically activated for all customers using the Next or Next Mini boxes with the standard Ziggo voice remote, requiring no manual setup or additional cost.

The rollout is part of Ziggo’s wider strategy to enhance its aggregated TV ecosystem amid increasing competition from standalone streaming apps. By integrating AI-powered discovery and personalised search, Ziggo aims to simplify navigation, improve user satisfaction, and strengthen engagement across its TV and streaming services.
