French broadcaster TF1 has renewed its partnership with World Rugby, securing exclusive French broadcast rights for the Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027, which will take place in Australia from October 1 to November 13, 2027. The agreement extends a collaboration that spans more than 40 years, first established during the 1991 tournament.

The 2027 edition will be the largest Rugby World Cup to date, featuring 24 teams and 52 matches across seven host cities. For the first time, the competition will include a round of 16, expanding the knockout phase. With 2.5 million tickets expected to be available, it will also mark Australia’s biggest sporting event since the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

TF1’s renewed rights follow its record-breaking coverage of recent rugby tournaments, including the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, where the France–South Africa quarter-final drew 16.5 million viewers, and the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup, which achieved record audiences for women’s rugby in France.

World Rugby CEO Alan Gilpin praised the renewal as a continuation of “an iconic partnership bringing top-tier international rugby to millions of French fans.” François Pellissier, Deputy General Manager of TF1 Group, added that the agreement reflects TF1’s “ongoing commitment to offering unifying, world-class sporting events and showcasing French rugby at its best.”
