CNN is enhancing its mobile experience with a new vertical video feed inside its main news app, offering users a TikTok-style stream of short-form news content created by its anchors, reporters, and correspondents.
Rolling out from 10 November, the update introduces a redesigned interface featuring two main sections at the top of the home screen. The familiar “Top Stories” tab continues to deliver breaking headlines through text and video, while the new “Shorts” tab presents a scrollable, full-screen feed of quick, engaging clips designed for effortless, mobile-first viewing.
The new feature complements CNN’s recently launched streaming subscription service, expanding its short-form video strategy and providing audiences with a more immersive and habitual way to consume news. The “Shorts” feed includes a mix of breaking updates, explainers, and personality-driven pieces, all optimised for vertical video consumption.
According to CNN, the addition of the vertical feed reflects its commitment to evolving how audiences engage with digital news. By blending social-style interaction with trusted journalism, the network aims to strengthen connections with younger and mobile-focused viewers.
CNN described the rollout as part of its ongoing efforts to deliver a “best-in-class digital experience”, signalling more innovations to come as it continues to grow and reimagine its video ecosystem across platforms.
