Netflix has signed its first commercial distribution deal with Sky Business to broadcast a live boxing event in pubs, bars and hospitality venues across the UK and Ireland.
The agreement will see Tyson Fury’s return to the ring against Arslanbek Makhmudov on 11 April made available to licensed venues via Sky Business, marking the first time a major Netflix boxing event has been distributed to the on-trade in these markets. Sky Business will hold exclusive commercial rights, with venues required to obtain a dedicated licence to screen the fight.
The event is expected to drive footfall for hospitality operators, coinciding with a busy day of live sport. The fight card also features British names including Conor Benn and Frazer Clarke, culminating in a British heavyweight title bout.
The partnership highlights Netflix’s growing ambitions in live sports and expands its distribution strategy beyond the home, while offering venues a new opportunity to attract audiences and increase spending through premium live events.
