Zattoo integrates direct access to ZDF streaming portal

Zattoo has expanded its streaming platform in Germany by integrating direct access to ZDF’s on-demand portal, giving users seamless entry to the public broadcaster’s full content library.

The move follows Zattoo’s October 2025 integration of ARD Mediathek, meaning that users can now access both major German public service broadcasters — ARD and ZDF — directly through Zattoo’s interface. The addition marks another step toward Zattoo’s goal of consolidating leading local and national media services within a single, unified viewing environment.

With the new integration, users in Germany can navigate directly from the Zattoo platform to any ZDF programme with a single click. ZDF content — including live channels, news, entertainment, documentaries, and on-demand programming — is now highlighted on Zattoo’s home screen through curated recommendations and editorial highlights.

Additionally, ZDF titles are now fully integrated into Zattoo’s unified search function, allowing users to discover shows and films from the broadcaster alongside content from other available channels and services.

The feature is available immediately across multiple devices, including web browsers, Apple TV, iPhones, iPads, and Android-based systems such as Amazon Fire TV.

Florian Kumb, ZDF’s Director of Audience and responsible for its streaming operations, said the collaboration reflects the broadcaster’s mission to make its public service content more accessible across digital platforms.

“As a public service media provider, making our content as easily accessible as possible is a central goal. The partnership with Zattoo represents another pioneering step toward achieving this. Our vision of a digital ZDF offering for everyone is strengthened — with comfortable usability, simple navigation, and wider reach into society,” Kumb stated.

The initiative aligns with ZDF’s ongoing digital transformation strategy, aimed at ensuring that audiences can access the broadcaster’s diverse programming — including news, cultural content, and entertainment — beyond traditional linear TV.

The partnership reflects a broader shift in the streaming landscape, as traditional broadcasters and aggregators collaborate to improve discoverability and user experience. With German audiences increasingly turning to connected TVs and streaming devices, partnerships like this ensure that public broadcasters maintain visibility and relevance in a competitive environment dominated by global players.

For Zattoo, these collaborations are central to its strategy of blending public, commercial, and international channels into a unified digital platform. The integration of ZDF reinforces its positioning as a neutral hub for television content — one that supports both public broadcasters’ accessibility goals and users’ preference for convenience and personalisation.
